Overview

Samsung's Ultra flagship line has always been about doing everything — and doing it at the absolute highest level. The Galaxy S25 Ultra continues that tradition with meaningful refinements: a lighter, more rounded chassis, the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor across all global markets, and a Galaxy AI suite that's grown more capable since its introduction. But with a starting price that puts it firmly in premium territory, it has to justify every dollar.

Design and Build

Samsung made a smart change with the S25 Ultra's design — the corners are noticeably more rounded compared to the sharp-edged S24 Ultra, making it significantly more comfortable to hold for extended periods. Despite the massive 6.9-inch display, the phone feels less intimidating in hand than its predecessor.

  • Materials: Titanium frame, Corning Gorilla Armor 2 on the front
  • Weight: Slightly lighter than the S24 Ultra
  • S Pen: Still integrated into the chassis — a feature no other major flagship offers
  • IP rating: IP68 dust and water resistance

The titanium construction feels premium without the cold, clinical feel of some competitors. Color options are thoughtfully muted — Samsung seems to understand that Ultra buyers often prefer understated elegance over flashy hues.

Display

The 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel is exceptional by any measure. Peak brightness reaches levels that make outdoor visibility a non-issue, and the 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate keeps the display smooth while conserving battery when static content is on screen. Colors are accurate out of the box with Natural mode, or vivid if you prefer Samsung's signature punchy look.

Performance

The Snapdragon 8 Elite is the fastest mobile chip currently available for Android, and the S25 Ultra takes full advantage. Everyday tasks feel instantaneous, demanding apps launch without hesitation, and gaming at max settings is smooth. More importantly, the chip's efficiency improvements mean this performance doesn't come at the cost of battery life.

The 5,000mAh battery comfortably lasts a full day of heavy use — social media, navigation, camera, and video streaming — with room to spare for lighter users to stretch into a second day.

Camera System

The quad-camera setup on the S25 Ultra is class-leading in most conditions:

  • 200MP main sensor: Excellent dynamic range and detail retention in bright light
  • 50MP 5x telephoto: The 5x zoom produces sharp, usable images that rival dedicated cameras at a distance
  • 10MP 3x telephoto: Useful for the 2–4x zoom range where the main and 5x sensors hand off
  • 12MP ultrawide: Solid detail and minimal distortion

In low light, the S25 Ultra is among the best smartphones available, though Google's Pixel line remains competitive in night photography. Video recording tops out at 8K (with practical limitations) and 4K60fps video is excellent for a smartphone.

Galaxy AI Features

Samsung's AI suite has expanded, offering real-time call translation, intelligent photo editing (including generative fill for removing or replacing objects), and improved note-taking features tied to the S Pen. These feel genuinely useful rather than gimmicky — particularly the translation and photo editing tools.

What Could Be Better

  • Charging speeds (45W wired) lag behind some Chinese competitors offering 100W+
  • Samsung's One UI continues to include apps most users will never use
  • The S Pen, while unique, lacks Bluetooth functionality that earlier Ultra models included

Verdict

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the best Android smartphone Samsung has made. It doesn't reinvent the Ultra formula, but it refines it meaningfully — better ergonomics, faster performance, and more mature AI features. If you want the most capable Android device money can buy and are invested in the Samsung ecosystem, this is it. If you're upgrading from an S23 Ultra or earlier, the S25 Ultra is a genuine upgrade worth considering.
